The South West is one of the UK richest areas for local produce and here at the Queens Arms we are totally spoilt for choice! We endeavour to source all our fresh produce locally.  We always try to purchase seasonal foods and are a careful to consider ‘food miles’ and quality of life for livestock too.

We have our own pigs which are supplemented by peelings and beer from the pub. They give us wonderful full-flavoured meat. We also have seventy of our own hens which are mixed breeds of Maran, Buff Orpingtons, Wessex, Black Rocks and Bantams. These now supply our full requirement of eggs for the pub. The hens can roam freely and their eggs are rich and flavoursome and never fail to wow our B&B guests at breakfast time!

We buy most of our meat from Andrew Barclays butchers in Wincanton and our fish is supplied to us by Samways of Bridport which is our closest fishing port samwaysfish

Although we make our own bread we also buy some from West Camel Bakery who bake in traditional ovens dating from 1912 avoiding the use of any preservatives or additives.

Our salad and fresh vegetables come from award winning farmer John Rowswell of Barrington near Illminster. John was voted ‘Best Somerset Food Producer of the Year 2006/2007’ and was winner of a ‘South West Food Hero’s Award’ in 2006.

Our lunchtime Ploughmans wouldn’t be the same without a good chunk of Cheddar cheese and here we serve Montgomery Cheddar which is often considered to be the standard-bearer of English farmhouse cheddars. We’ve no excuses not to have this delicious cheese on the Queens Arms menu. It’s produced on the Montgomery’s 500 year old farm in North Cadbury which is just 3 miles down the road from the pub!

This is just a small snapshot of what we are all about and gives a flavour of our desire to give our customers the very best that the region has to offer, and to be local and ethical in our approach to business.
